Each week, I’ll give a review of how the Buckeye opponents, past and future, have faired during the season. As a matter of general principle, I want all opponents to win each week except when they play OSU. Here’s their performance to date with commentary:
Youngstown State - 0-43 lost to Ohio State away. Conclusion: Expected Loss
Ohio University - 20-21 lost to Wyoming away. Conclusion: Tough Loss
USC - 52-7 won at Virginia. Conclusion: Dominating Win
Troy - 31-17 won at Middle Tennessee State. Conclusion: Expected Win
Minnesota - 31-27 beat Northern Illinois at home. Conclusion: Win (Minnesota has improved their defense dramatically from last year.)
Wisconsin - 38-17 beat Akron at home. Conclusion: Expected Win
Purdue - Bye week
Michigan State - 31-38 lost at California. Conclusion: Tough Loss
Penn State - 66-10 beat Coastal Carolina at home. Conclusion: Expected Win
Northwestern - 30-10 beat Syracuse at home. Conclusion: Win (how can you really say “expected” when NWU lost to Duke last year?)
Illinois - 42-52 lost at Missouri (neutral field). Conclusion: Expected Loss
Michigan - 23-25 lost to Utah at home. Conclusion: Expected Loss (how weird is it to write that phrase, Michigan expected to lose to Utah!)
Bowl Opponent - TBD
Ohio State opponents YTD? (includes all opponents but bowl opponent.) 7-5. Not shaping up to be a good strength of schedule season. Illinois was beaten soundly. Michigan State was in the game. Michigan, how far have they fallen? USC looks way impressive - is USC that GOOD or is Virginia that BAD? Wisconsin is going to be tough later in the year as is Michigan State.
